Internationally award-winning artist Sara Jacobs Chambers works in many mediums and is passionate about color, line and texture. Her unique approach with oil stick and palette knife especially emphasize her love of texture and color. An alla prima painter, Chambers works swiftly and directly throughout the creation of her bold, almost wild, landscapes, often with gallery-wrapped painted edges that add a sculptural dimension to the paintings. The result is an expression of the joy that she feels at being allowed to create paintings that carry the ordinary into extra-ordinary. Favorite themes are autumn landscapes, flowers, gardens, animals and figures. Chambers studies extensively in museums and other stimulating settings, both nationally and internationally, having traveled to China, Russia, San Francisco, Vienna, Austria, Prague, Thailand and Bangladesh. She teaches art seminars on composition and painting and also judges art exhibitions. Chambers frequently exhibits in national and international art shows, including the Salmugundi Club Nonmembers Show in New York City and a solo exhibit at the Chamizal National Memorial. She also exhibited with a group of artists at the Mill Atelier Gallery on famed Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her most recent prestigious group exhibition was in New York City at Amsterdam Whitney Gallery. Chambers is a frequent contributor to charitable fundraisers, such as Casa Esperanza Cancer Retreat in Albuquerque, and Habitat for Humanity in Otero County. Selected honors include a purchase award at Arts International 2006, the Platinum Pastel Award in the Pastel Society of Oregon National Show, the Pastel Journal award in the Sierra Pastel Society International “Pastels on High” Exhibition, Jerry's Artorama Special Award in the Pastel Society of New Mexico National Show. Publications include American Art Collector Magazine, August 2008; Pastel Artist International Magazine, 2002; GuestLife New Mexico 2005; and Romantic Homes Magazine, December 2004. Chambers represented one of her galleries in the Taos Gallery Association Spring Exhibition in 2005. She is a signature member of the New Mexico Pastel Society and an elected member of the Degas Pastel Society. Chambers' work is internationally collected in private and corporate collections and is represented in galleries coast to coast. |
