The National Park Service was selected as the theme for the White House decorations by President and Mrs. Bush. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area selected Joan because her work best captures the beauty of the river. Joan, accompanied by her husband Judge Maurice Hilliard, attended a reception at the White House hosted by the Furst Lady honoring the artists from around the nation that were selected to depict the nation's parks on the ornaments.
