| Nature is full of complex lines, shapes, colors and textures, and it is nature that has inspired years of study and experimentation with art materials Coming from a background in business and education, Judie's introduction to a formal study in the arts began with ceramics in the early 1980's, when she developed a line of porcelain jewelry which was marketed throughout the Southeast. Using a rich local terra cotta clay, the artist currently creates large decorative wall pieces which are represented in Atlanta and Augusta galleries and are in many private and corporate collections. Judie's ceramic compositions are exquisite wall panels enhanced with varied textural applications and warm washes of color. In addition, she has developed a style of figurative clay sculptures which she affectionately calls, "women with attitude." During the past several years, landscape painting on paper and canvas has become an integral part of Judie's portfolio, allowing her to expand her artistic vision in a different form. Explorations of this subject matter are achieved by applying layers of rich pigments to paper and canvas. The artist finds her muse in the natural beauty of the rural pastoral settings of Tuscany and Provence and closer to home in Georgia, Tennessee, Colorado, and California. Judie has been professionally involved in art education in Atlanta for the past twenty-five years and she currently teaches visual arts in one of Atlanta's premier independent schools. She finds inspiration and pride in her work with the students in developing and guiding them in their artistic endeavors, and through her support and encouragement, many of them have embarked upon careers in the arts. Sculptural works and paintings created by Judie are in numerous private and corporate collections around the country.
