| I tend to be creative with any and all materials that are available. I am always looking for new and different ways to put things together which led me to my latest "watershed" work, "Peace be with You". My creativity and interest in art and photography comes naturally from my heritage. I grew up in my father's woodshop with an insatiable curiosity. Whenever my father would tell me something couldn't work, I would have to find a way to prove him wrong. To this day, I don't know if he really believed it wouldn't work or if he was just helping me learn how to find my own way. I always had an interest in writing but the actual writing was much too laborious. With my first computer, I found a new way to release this creative talent. While stationed on Guam in 1966, I bought my first SLR camera. With the luscious landscape and our first child, I exposed a lot of film, and haven't stopped since. It wasn't until late in my career that I finally found time to pursue painting. At the time I had a traveling job and instead of going to the bar or turning on the TV, I painted. Using photographs and still-life setups, I turned my motel room into an art studio. I have studied under Wen Ze Chen and Tony Couch, but for the most part I am a self-taught artist. Through books and videos, I have studied the works and techniques of numerous artists. Some have found their way into my art while others have inspired me to try harder. |
